The Flying Dutchman, the world’s steepest zipline, has received the 2018 Seatrade Cruise Award for “Innovative Shorex of the Year.”  This St. Maarten attraction is part of the Rainforest Adventure’s Rockland Estate.  The “Innovative Shorex of the Year” award recognizes a company or individual who has created, sourced or introduced an innovative shore excursion over the past 12 months. 

The main attraction at Rockland Estate, The Flying Dutchman drops 1050 feet in elevation from the top of Sentry Hill over a 2800 foot span guaranteeing thrill-seekers the ride of a lifetime. 

“We ‘d like to share this honour with our staff and the people of St. Maarten who make every guest’s visit unforgettable and extend a heartfelt thank you to our cruise partners who have returned to our Friendly Island post0hurricane, greatly assisting with our quick recovery,” Swietanski General Manager of Rockland Estate said.

Join the St.Maarten Regatta Beach Clean-Up on Saturday January the 26th, 2019!

With the start of the new year, organizers of the St. Maarten Regatta are already in full preparations for the 7th annual Beach Clean-Up. The St. Maarten Regatta Beach Clean-Up will take place on Saturday January the 26th from 9 AM to 12:30 PM at Kim Sha Beach. Together with the Local youth, the Regatta Foundation will start the morning with cleaning Kim Sha Beach, followed by various sport activities.

The morning will start at 9:00 AM sharp with the Beach Clean Up. There will be two different age categories, 6-12 years and 13-18 years. The children will be classified in one of the two age categories. The teams will have 30 minutes to compete against each other and collect the most waste as possible. After the Beach Clean Up, a quiz will be held by the Nature Foundation to make the children more aware about the negative effects of pollution on marine life and environment. The last part of the morning will be filled with various sporting games organized by LAB Sport Academy. Come and join us for this exciting day filled with activities.

Domino’s pizza will provide everyone with a delicious piece of pizza at the end of the day!

Anouk van Loon, organizer of the Beach Clean-Up is excited to see the amount of waste being collected. “This Beach Clean Up is a combination of education and fun. Children become more aware of the effects that pollution has on the Island and rest of the world. This Beach Clean Up is an event where you, together with your friends can help the island and have fun as well. Furthermore, this Clean-up also counts towards achieving community hours and do not forget that there are prizes available for the best cleaners, the winners of the quiz and the winners of the sports activities.”

This year’s Beach Clean-Up will be provided by LAB Sports Academy, the St. Maarten Nature Foundation, Trisport, Funtopia, The Scuba Shop, Intertoys, Ocean Explorers, Random Wind, Fiji Water, Domino’s, Shipwreck Shop, Rainforest adventures, Timeless Spirits, Meadowlands, Carrefour, Seaside Nature Park, Carousel and Print & Sign express.
